WHITE PLAINS- In October 1776, General Howe caught Washington's army at
White Plains, N.Y. Howe won the victory, but Washington managed to escape
with his army.

TRENTON AND PRINCETON- On December 26, 1776,, Washington secretly ferried
his men across the Delaware River and surprised the Hessians stationed at
Trenton New Jersey. Close to 1,000 Germans were taken prisoner. Badly
needed supplies were also captured.
