FIRST ALLIANCE MEETING IN YOLO COUNTY
The purpose of this meeting was to introduce to Davis residents the new national organization, Alliance for
Democracy. The meeting opened with brief presentations by Davis residents,
Nancy Price, who attended the founding convention (November 1996) and Bob Bockwinkel.
A short video of a speech by Ronnie Dugger, founder of the Alliance, was shown.
Over fifty people attended our first meeting in Yolo County on April 30, 1997 at the Blanchard Room in the Yolo County Library in Davis. Representatives of many Yolo County groups attended and gave reports about local activities. These included local groups focused on the issues of
the Covell Center development, Aggie Villa mini-mall and Borders Books, water meter rates and
conservation, and the couty Habitat Conservation Plan.
Those who attended said they were excited about forming a group like the Alliance. There was agreement to have a meeting in May. After the meeting, fifteen to twenty people kept talking in the parking lot. The meeting was a great success.
There will be a videotape of this meeting made available in June. Please contact Bob Bockwinkel or Richard Yamagata for information.
